About your teachers
Introduction:
Welcome to second grade! I am thrilled to be one of your child's teachers this year. Your child will grow so much this year both physically and mentally! I have been teaching in Wayland for 14 years. Several of those years were teaching full time and then I had the opportunity to enter a job share position after our twins were born. Jane and John are now 8 and beginning third grade in Bedford. I have been a part of a job share for the last six years, and truly value the opportunity to continue the career I love and to be home with my children. Watching students have "aha" moments is my absolute favorite thing about teaching. These are the moments when something clicks within a student's mind and they see the world in a slightly different way because of their new insight. These "aha" moments are especially characteristic of second graders. Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my family, watching Boston College sporting events (my alma mater), running, reading and spending time at the Cape. Two of my favorite books that I read this summer are The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan Phillipp Sendker, and Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. I look forward to working with you and your children this year!

Introduction:
I am so happy to be one of your child's teachers this year as you begin your second grade year! We will have a wonderful year filled with learning and growing, and I know we will have a lot of fun in the process! My hope is that students will look back when they are old with some vivid memories of second grade and that they will truly learn to love to learn this year! I have been teaching for twenty years, 13 of them in Wayland! This is my second year in second grade and my second year working in a job share position. My favorite part of being a teacher is unlocking the world of being a reader to a child. I love seeing children grasp the skills and strategies to take on new books and see themselves as readers! There's nothing like having a child experience that feeling of not wanting to put down a book or not wanting me to stop reading aloud a book to them!
I am thrilled this year to be able to share my time between my "school kids" and my own kids! I have a spunky, 4 year old daughter, Anneliese who is in preschool, a 2 year old son, Grayson who spends his days climbing and exploring everything, Colin who was born this year on May 1 and I also have a 10 year old step-daughter, Lia, who lives in Kansas, so our family is always traveling! We live in Charlestown and love the hustle and bustle of the city and being able to walk everywhere. I love to travel with my family, spend days at the beach (when they aren't eating the sand!), and share new memory-making experiences with our children. I wish for your child a year of happiness, curiosity, and emotional, social, and academic growth. I am so happy to be a part of your child's life this year!
